Final Exam
1. I think my portfolio doesn’t really reflect my development throughout the semester. However, I feel like it shows my strengths and weaknesses when it comes to different mediums in art. In certain mediums, such as clay, I’m stronger because of my experience with it in Mrs.Sudkamp’s class. While dealing with acrylic paints, I never really had a lot of experience and only painted with it during my sophomore year Art 1 class. Each project helped me strengthen my skills as an young artist. I do plan on continuing art classes this following year which will then show my development over those two years. I think the semester was sort of a short time to see if I have developed in my art. I also think that since it was very different mediums that we used in class, I didn’t have enough time to master certain ones.
2. I choose to do Sakshi portfolio as a whole to reflect on. She really executed each project we did in the class very well. Her portfolio itself is laid out very well. It displayed everything we did, from the very first day until our final project of the semester. One project that I will reflect on is her acrylic painting. She executed this so well within 5 minutes, while reflecting her famous artist. The way she used the palette knife to layer the paint and have to give that effect off was excellent and very well thought out. She stayed original with all of her artwork from the entire semester.
3. I would have to say watercolor was my favorite this semester. Being able to learn a new technique when using it really help. Pouring watercolor was very easy and having the freedom of doing what we wanting helped. Being able to control the shades and tents of the colors that we made with the 3 primary colors helped it be one of my most successful projects as well. The guest artist explaining and also showing how to do the pouring technique gave me a leg up on mastering the new technique. I was never successful with watercolor in my Art 1 class, but finding a new way of doing it will really help me in the long run to using it.
4. I would have to say that my pen and ink project was the least successful. I feel like I could have done a lot of things differently. My details in the project could’ve been a lot better. Maybe if I would’ve taken my time with the details and line work it would have been a lot more successful. I should’ve added more in the background instead of having a bunch of white. My variety of patterns that I choose should’ve had a lot more choices when it came to picking the final ones for my project. The detail work is what really mattered in the project and I failed to execute that. That made my whole project fall through.
